A commodity-money refinement in matching models
نویسندگان
چکیده
We apply a commodity-money refinement to matching models in which people meet in pairs and buyers make take-it-or-leave-it offers to sellers. The refinement is applied by attaching a utility value to nominal money and letting that value approach zero. An equilibrium satisfies the refinement if it is such a limit. We show that the refinement eliminates a class of non full-support steady states. J. of Econ. Lit. Classification E40. Running title: Commodity-Money Refinement

Matching and Money¤
We analyze matching models of monetary exchange where agents get to choose endogenously the individuals (or at least the types of individuals) that they meet, rather than having agents matched exogenously and at random, as in the previous literature. Agents are still restricted to one bilateral trade per period, and specialization can still lead to a double coincidence problem in the exchange p...
متن کاملDoes commodity money eliminate the indeterminacy of equilibrium?
Previous studies have shown that a random-matching model with divisible at money and without constraint on agents' money inventories possesses a continuum of stationary single-price equilibria. Wallace [10] conjectures that the indeterminacy can be eliminated by the use of commodity money. Instead, I nd that in a similar random-matching model with dividend-yielding commodity money, a continuum ...

The monetary character of trade, the existence of a common medium of exchange, is derived as an outcome of the economic general equilibrium in a class of examples. Two constructs are added to an Arrow-Debreu general equilibrium model: market segmentation with multiple budget constraints (one at each transaction) and transaction costs. The multiplicity of budget constraints creates a demand for ...

ion and Refinement The reasons that ontologies are altered are very often concerned with the fact that too much or, more often, too little detail has been included in the ontology. This creates the need to remove detail performing an abstraction of the ontology, or add detail performing a refinement. Notions of abstractions are often quite vague, but the theory of abstracting first-order ontolo...
متن کاملA Model of Commodity Money with Minting and Melting∗
We construct a random matching model of a monetary economy with commodity money in the form of potentially different types of silver coins that are distinguishable by the quantity of metal they contain. The quantity of silver in the economy is assumed to be fixed, but agents can mint and melt coins. Coins yield no utility, but can be traded. Uncoined silver yields direct utility to the holder. ...
